Location
The closest metro stop to the hotel is Cadorna
which is on Line 1 of the Milan metro system at Piazza
Luigi Cadorna in front of the northern train station,
Stazione Cadorna. The hotel is a short 200
metre stroll from Piazza Cadorna.
Il Duomo, Milan’s Cathedral, is 500
metres away from the hotel and is easily reached on foot.
Using the metro it is only three metro stops from the Duomo.
The Cathedral is Milan’s most visible and distinguishes
the Piazza which is the city’s social and geographical
centre. The central spire is topped by a gilded copper statue
of the Madonnina (literally translated as ‘our little
Madonna’) which has acted as the traditional protector
of the city.
Near the hotel, housed in the Monastero Maggiore,
is the Civico Museo Achaeologico containing
a sizeable collection of Roman, Greek, Etruscan and medieval
artefacts. The building is a 9th century Benedictine convent
rebuilt in the 1500s.
The Hotel King is a short walk north of
a very important basilica, the Romanesque Basilica
di Sant’ Ambrogio which is dedicated to Milan’s
Patron Saint, St Ambrose. The church was founded in the 4th
century by Ambrose and has since been repaired, rebuilt and
restored numerous times.
